Inner City High School is an academic and arts-based senior high school accredited by Alberta Education. The school provides opportunities for the inner city and other "marginalized urban youth" to develop skills that can lead to a high school diploma, post-secondary studies, and full-time employment helping prevent their return to a life on the street. Participation in Inner City High School depends on the introduction of a value system based on trust, respect, cooperation, and non-violence; values that run contrary to what one finds on the street. Small scheduled daily classes, understanding teachers, and a high degree of student participation empower students to overcome personal and social problems and engage in progressively more demanding academic studies.
