Agape Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten has a Learning Through Play Philosophy where the children are provided the opportunity for hands on active learning experiences to master skills that they will use later in more formal study. Young children see the world differently than older students and learn best through direct, sensory experience. They need to manipulate, explore and experiment, they learn by doing, moving, talking. Agape provides a program which includes multiple large fenced in play areas, natural play space, outdoor classroom as well as a sensory room and a large gym.

Aspire Special Needs Resource Centre is a charitable organization providing hope to children with special needs, the families who love them and the communities who care for them. Aspire has grown from a small gathering of dedicated parents and professionals with a vision to a large, busy charitable organization offering evidenced-based programs and services that are family-centered. Early Access to Supportive Education (EASE) is our specialized preschool program for children with severe delays or disabilities. We focus on each child’s individual strengths and needs to build a solid foundation in this crucial stage of their development. In the EASE Preschool program, we follow both child-centred and family-centred approaches to ensure that we provide the best program for each child and family. This means that each child’s program can be developed to best address their developmental strengths and needs, and each child will have access to our On-site Therapy Team who works closely with our Special Education Teachers, Early Learning Facilitators, and Child Development Facilitators in the classroom and other areas of the children’s programs to ensure the best interventions for each child’s success. By offering both specialized on-site programming for our EASE children, we believe we are providing them with the support and learning opportunities to reach their full potential.

Brighter Futures Private School is happy to provide Early Intervention services for children who require them. These services are directly immersed, and in conjunction with our preschool and junior kindergarten classes, in an inclusive setting program. Children that are accessing early intervention services will be part of the regular programming and also receive pull out services for individual therapy and small group work (as required based on the needs of the child). These services are fully funded through Alberta Education. Alberta Education offers different types of funding depending on the needs of the child. These include: Mild/Moderate (M/M) funding for children with either mild or moderate delays in development; Program Unit Funding (PUF) for children whose needs are more significant/severe/medical, and English Language Learner (ELL) funding for children who are new to learning English.
Our kindergarten program helps to support the 3rd year of PUF supports. We currently work in collaboration with the LEAP Centre to provide our kindergarten program. In line with the values of the EFC, the kindergarten program is a child-centered, developmentally appropriate program of learning for kindergarten aged children. The purpose of the program is to establish a strong foundation for learning in the early years, and to do so in a safe and caring, play-based environment that promotes the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of all children. There will be a focus on servicing the needs of PUF funded children, who may benefit from a smaller class size and regular, integrated specialized supports and services, however this is an inclusive program. The goal of the program is to help children make a smoother transition to Grade 1 and to aid in improving their success in school moving forward. The class has an enrollment cap of 10 students to allow for one-on-one and small group focus.

Waldorf education is the largest independent school movement in the world, with more than 1,000 schools all around the globe. The first Waldorf School was founded in 1919 by Rudolf Steiner in Stuttgart, Germany. Steiner’s educational goals were to nurture the imagination while educating the mind; develop flexible intellects capable of problem-solving in diverse activities; enhance the child’s artistic as well as cognitive talents; honour the unique temperaments of each child; provide an enlivened and loving atmosphere that embraces the spiritual core of all life and activity. These goals have proven to serve children well in preparing them to meet the challenges of modern life. The Waldorf approach recognizes that children have distinct, age-related educational and emotional needs that unfold through the stages of their development. ONSITE PUF PROGRAMMING IN EDMONTON
Ages 2 years 8 month to 5 years 11 months (as of September 1)
We know that providing high-quality daily support early in life can dramatically improve a child’s ability to learn and succeed in school, especially for children who have higher needs. The Centre for Autism Services Alberta’s (the Centre) program offers evidence-based learning through play using the support of highly specialized teams. With small class sizes and high teacher-to-student ratios, student learning is maximized.
The Centre is an approved Early Childhood Services (ECS) provider through Alberta Education. We use a naturalistic developmental behavioural approach, an approach proven to be effective for children with autism. This means that we use a mix of play and structured activities that focus on typical developmental milestones and that are taught with evidence-based principles. Daily information is collected to show evidence of a child’s learning and children move through goals at their own pace. Children participate in a routine that is filled with learning experiences in the areas of academics, communication, socialization, motor skills, and self-help skills. We have a strong emphasis on increasing independence and maximizing school readiness.

Cherry Coulee Christian Academy has been serving the Christian Community of Bow Island, AB since opening its doors in September 1989. The school’s mission is “to assist the family by providing a quality, Christ-centred, Bible-based education, to equip students for life, and to influence the world around them for Christ.” Cherry Coulee continues to offer a Bible-based curriculum that meets the standards of Alberta Education. The pioneer spirit has prevailed at CCCA since its inception. Two portables, which were later increased to four, housed the humble beginnings of the school, yet with the tireless effort of countless individuals who donated many thousands of volunteer hours CCCA was able to further expand in 2003 with the opening of a new building which houses classrooms, a kitchen, and a full-sized gym. Over the years the school expanded not only physically, but it also greatly increased the student base it served, including a homeschool program (early 1990s) throughout the province. The board and teachers of CCCA pray that the practical application of Christian principles, that the students receive, will continue to impact their lives and mould them into strong mature Christians.

We focus on serving the needs of a unique group of students that are poorly served by the existing school system: Twice-Exceptional learners. The potential of these students is extraordinary. Without the appropriate education and interventions however, their discoveries, innovations, breakthroughs, leadership, and other gifts to society will go unrealized. At E2 Academy, students will receive educational programming that not only serves their diverse needs, but also highlights and build on their strengths. We provide a student-centred, strength based educational model that will optimize each student’s intellectual, academic and social development so each of them are able to reach their highest potential, skill and competence, while maintaining a small class size with approximately a 1:8 teacher/student ratio. We are completely devoted to the social, emotional, intellectual, academic, and creative growth of our students. We believe that education is a process involving experiences both in and outside of the classroom and should allow students to find peers with similar interests and passions and develop self esteem and resiliency. Coaching, mentoring, and supporting students through this process will allow them to reach their full potential and flourish. Our teachers are creative in their approaches and embrace a non-adversarial, collaborative, proactive and skill-building system for interventions. Anyone interested in learning about strength-based learning within a diverse and unique population of learners are welcome to contact us. We can make a difference.

For people living in poverty, education and skill development has often been out of reach, as they must focus their energy on coping with the immediate challenges poverty creates. But when given opportunities to learn and grow, people begin to look beyond the urgency of the moment and begin planning for the future they want. E4C has always recognized the importance of education and skill development in helping people living in poverty move toward healthy, positive, lasting change. It helps them journey from where they are now to where they want to be. Learning new skills and expanding knowledge is beneficial to anyone at any age but is particularly relevant to children and youth who have a lifetime to utilize what they learn. That’s why we’ve developed a range of programs designed to reach and inspire kids, including our Early Learning program, which focuses on children from 2.5 – 5 years of age.

Our early-childhood program combines the best of Maria Montessori and the Reggio Emilia Methods, engaging children ages 2-5 years with developmentally appropriate activities, and a focus on the ‘whole child’. Through creative exploration and play, we support each child’s cognitive, physical, emotional, and social growth. Our program incorporates social and environmental awareness into our curriculum and emphasizes earth-friendly practices and healthy choices.

Every child deserves the right to achieve their full potential. Providing an early education program that is tailored to a child’s individual needs with opportunities to experience inclusion and full participation in their home, school and community creates a strong foundation to build that potential. With the core belief that communication is the foundation for lifelong learning the multi-disciplinary team supports all developmental areas of need and endeavor to ensure that children become full participants at home, school and in their community. We believe that you, the parents, need to be provided with flexible program options that cater to your child’s individual needs including time in home, in the community and access to specialized programs. We believe that your child will benefit from the Consultative Model, which involves consistent therapy and education provided by a Child Development Specialist. They work as part of a team with teachers and therapists who establish, model and monitor these strategies for the Child Development Specialist and your family. We believe that a positive and successful transition into the school system requires support and advocacy from a highly experienced education/therapy team working together with the families.

Headway School’s orientation is toward post-secondary education. All of our students are trained for university or college. They receive motivational training through Sikh culture and morals. As a school based on Sikh culture, we offer Punjabi as a subject. Nature has done its thing, so our philosophy is to nurture the child’s body, mind and soul and to develop each student into a complete human being. We are an extension of the family and are here to help parents raise their children to become good citizens. We are concerned about the person in the present and the future. We think that humans can be encouraged to do their best and become responsible citizens if they are held accountable for their actions. Constant correcting of the wrong behaviour with rational choices can lead to a change in behaviour that is desired by all. Equality and respect for all human beings, respect for plant life and animal life, love for Canada, and duty to preserve earth and her natural resources are a few of the ideas that fuel our vision. Our graduates who are with us at least three years reflect these traits, and they are our "pride!"

Each child learns in different ways and at different speeds. Therefore, after diagnostic testing (a process of ascertaining the student’s actual academic performance level), an Individualized Program Plan is developed that best meets the needs of the child. Our school trains Christian youth of all abilities in the highest principles of Christian leadership and self-discipline, individual responsibility, personal integrity, and good citizenship. Students will graduate LCA fully equipped to face life situations with quality of character, personal integrity, high moral standards, and outstanding academic achievement, and will go on to fulfill the will of God in their lives.

Montessori is a system of education based on the understanding that every child has an innate motivation to learn. We provide a thoughtfully prepared environment, designed to promote physical, academic, and psychological development. In our mixed-age classrooms, children are free to work at their own pace, collaborating in small groups lead by their guides. Traditional education divides up learning into arbitrary categories, but the Montessori curriculum is a deeply interconnected one, with children never learning unconnected facts, but always focusing on integrated patterns of knowledge. We offer programming from 19 months to Grade 9.

At Renert, we believe that traditional schooling models no longer meet the needs of many of today’s students. Our experience has shown that students flourish when they are supported in the areas about which they care the most. Students’ success then translates into increased confidence in their abilities, which in turn permeates other areas they pursue.
