These services are directly immersed, and in conjunction with our preschool and junior kindergarten classes, in an inclusive setting program. Children that are accessing early intervention services will be part of the regular programming and also receive pull out services for individual therapy and small group work (as required based on the needs of the child). These services are fully funded through Alberta Education. Alberta Education offers different types of funding depending on the needs of the child. These include: Mild/Moderate (M/M) funding for children with either mild or moderate delays in development; Program Unit Funding (PUF) for children whose needs are more significant/severe/medical, and English Language Learner (ELL) funding for children who are new to learning English.
Our kindergarten program helps to support the 3rd year of PUF supports. We currently work in collaboration with the LEAP Centre to provide our kindergarten program. In line with the values of the EFC, the kindergarten program is a child-centered, developmentally appropriate program of learning for kindergarten aged children. The purpose of the program is to establish a strong foundation for learning in the early years, and to do so in a safe and caring, play-based environment that promotes the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of all children. There will be a focus on servicing the needs of PUF funded children, who may benefit from a smaller class size and regular, integrated specialized supports and services, however this is an inclusive program. The goal of the program is to help children make a smoother transition to Grade 1 and to aid in improving their success in school moving forward. The class has an enrollment cap of 10 students to allow for one-on-one and small group focus.

The first Waldorf School was founded in 1919 by Rudolf Steiner in Stuttgart, Germany. Steiner’s educational goals were to nurture the imagination while educating the mind; develop flexible intellects capable of problem-solving in diverse activities; enhance the child’s artistic as well as cognitive talents; honour the unique temperaments of each child; provide an enlivened and loving atmosphere that embraces the spiritual core of all life and activity. These goals have proven to serve children well in preparing them to meet the challenges of modern life. The Waldorf approach recognizes that children have distinct, age-related educational and emotional needs that unfold through the stages of their development. To meet these needs, the Calgary Waldorf School’s rich, lively, holistic, and hands-on curriculum carefully blends and balances academic, artistic, physical, and practical activities to stimulate intelligence and encourage creativity. This integrated curriculum is delivered through innovative teaching methods designed to engage the whole growing child. Thus over the years, the child learns through his or her hands, heart, and head … through doing, feeling, and thinking… leading to conscience in action, balance in feeling, and clarity in thought.

Ages 2 years 8 month to 5 years 11 months (as of September 1)
We know that providing high-quality daily support early in life can dramatically improve a child’s ability to learn and succeed in school, especially for children who have higher needs. The Centre for Autism Services Alberta’s (the Centre) program offers evidence-based learning through play using the support of highly specialized teams. With small class sizes and high teacher-to-student ratios, student learning is maximized.
The Centre is an approved Early Childhood Services (ECS) provider through Alberta Education. We use a naturalistic developmental behavioural approach, an approach proven to be effective for children with autism. This means that we use a mix of play and structured activities that focus on typical developmental milestones and that are taught with evidence-based principles. Daily information is collected to show evidence of a child’s learning and children move through goals at their own pace. Children participate in a routine that is filled with learning experiences in the areas of academics, communication, socialization, motor skills, and self-help skills. We have a strong emphasis on increasing independence and maximizing school readiness. -

Bow IslandK - 12Faith BasedChristianCherry Coulee Christian Academy has been serving the Christian Community of Bow Island, AB since opening its doors in September 1989. The school’s mission is “to assist the family by providing a quality, Christ-centred, Bible-based education, to equip students for life, and to influence the world around them for Christ.” Cherry Coulee continues to offer a Bible-based curriculum that meets the standards of Alberta Education. The pioneer spirit has prevailed at CCCA since its inception. Two portables, which were later increased to four, housed the humble beginnings of the school, yet with the tireless effort of countless individuals who donated many thousands of volunteer hours CCCA was able to further expand in 2003 with the opening of a new building which houses classrooms, a kitchen, and a full-sized gym. Over the years the school expanded not only physically, but it also greatly increased the student base it served, including a homeschool program (early 1990s) throughout the province. The board and teachers of CCCA pray that the practical application of Christian principles, that the students receive, will continue to impact their lives and mould them into strong mature Christians.

We provide a student-centred, strength based educational model that will optimize each student’s intellectual, academic and social development so each of them are able to reach their highest potential, skill and competence, while maintaining a small class size with approximately a 1:8 teacher/student ratio. We are completely devoted to the social, emotional, intellectual, academic, and creative growth of our students. We believe that education is a process involving experiences both in and outside of the classroom and should allow students to find peers with similar interests and passions and develop self esteem and resiliency. Coaching, mentoring, and supporting students through this process will allow them to reach their full potential and flourish. Our teachers are creative in their approaches and embrace a non-adversarial, collaborative, proactive and skill-building system for interventions. Anyone interested in learning about strength-based learning within a diverse and unique population of learners are welcome to contact us. We can make a difference.

All of our students are trained for university or college. They receive motivational training through Sikh culture and morals. As a school based on Sikh culture, we offer Punjabi as a subject. Nature has done its thing, so our philosophy is to nurture the child’s body, mind and soul and to develop each student into a complete human being. We are an extension of the family and are here to help parents raise their children to become good citizens. We are concerned about the person in the present and the future. We think that humans can be encouraged to do their best and become responsible citizens if they are held accountable for their actions. Constant correcting of the wrong behaviour with rational choices can lead to a change in behaviour that is desired by all. Equality and respect for all human beings, respect for plant life and animal life, love for Canada, and duty to preserve earth and her natural resources are a few of the ideas that fuel our vision. Our graduates who are with us at least three years reflect these traits, and they are our "pride!"

Our Early Childhood programs nurture the wonder-filled imaginative world of young children, building a strong base for future learning and development. In the grades, teachers ideally stay with their classes, moving with the children up through grades 1-8. Art, movement, and culture are infused into all academic study. Nature and natural materials are integrated into the learning experience. Our goal is to explore the child’s full potential, while nurturing their self-esteem by encouraging the development of a whole range of additional skills.
